January, 2003 — The next step was to build a screening fence at the right front corner of the house to replace the old fence I had taken down the year before. Since the new fence was going to be made of four obscure glass panels framed in redwood, I decided to strengthen the foundation with rebar to tie the posts together more securely. Simpson metal post bases were set in cement which was tinted brown so it would blend in with the soil.
